FODMAPs

FODMAPs are short-chain sugar molecules that are easily broken down in the large intestine but are poorly absorbed. They aren’t ‘bad’ foods, but they are fermented rapidly by bacteria in the gut, and this can result in IBS or gastrointestinal symptoms for some people.
Low FODMAP diets
The purpose of an elimination diet is to eliminate foods that contain FODMAPs from the list, in order to identify which ones you may be sensitive to, NOT to eliminate all FODMAP foods from your diet forever.
Elimination diets pose risk as they can reduce intake of nutrients from foods or food groups, and so aren’t encouraged or to be undertaken lightly.
FODMAP elimination diets should only be carried out under the supervision of a trained Monash professional.
